Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center in Las Vegas has achieved a groundbreaking medical milestone with the world’s first spine surgery performed using a multi-arm, navigation-based robotic system. This marks the debut of the first FDA-cleared spine surgery robot equipped with multiple arms, setting a new global benchmark for surgical precision, efficiency, and patient safety.

The pioneering procedure, conducted on October 28 by spine surgeon Dr. Kornelis Poelstra and the Southern Hills surgical team, showcased the system’s ability to enhance accuracy and reduce both operating times and recovery periods. The innovative technology enables surgeons to perform procedures with greater control and consistency than ever before.

Hospital CEO Alexis Mussi praised the milestone as a transformative moment for patient care in Southern Nevada, while Dr. Poelstra called the technology a “game-changer” for spine surgery. This historic accomplishment reinforces Southern Hills Hospital’s position as a leader in robotic-assisted surgery and medical innovation, advancing the future of healthcare on a global scale.
