SSOTD: Where to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month in Las Vegas

Whether you're in North Las Vegas, Henderson or somewhere in between, the Las Vegas valley is booming with festivities to honor Hispanic Heritage Month.

Here's a list of when and where to celebrate:

Salsa Splash

When: Saturday, September 6 from 1pm to 4pm Where: Pettiti Pool in North Las Vegas What: Enjoy a sunny day poolside while listening to music and playing water games. Food and refreshments will be available to purchase.

Build & Decorate a Trajinera

When: Tuesday, September 9 at 6pm Where: East Las Vegas Library What: Build and decorate your very own Mexican boat or Trajinera.

Fiesta Folklorico Performance

When: Friday, September 12 from 2 to 3pm. Where: East Las Vegas Library What: Watch the Danzantes del Puerto perform at a showcase celebrating various Mexican states.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration

When: Friday, September 12 from 6 to 9pm Where: Whitney Recreation Center What: Enjoy crafts, culture and community at this family-friendly event.

Mexican Independence Day Celebration

When: Saturday, September 13 from 12 to 3pm Where: Fashion Show Mall What: Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with a mariachi band, dance performances, and art installations.

Box Fan Expo for Mexican Independence Day Weekend

When: Friday, September 10 from 10am to 5pm Where: Las Vegas Convention Center What: Autographs, memorabilia, photo-ops and more are available with your favorite boxing stars.

El Grito

When: Sunday, September 12 from 12 to 4pm Where: East Las Vegas Community Center What: A community celebration and resource fair including family activities and entertainment.

Hispanic Heritage Month Kickoff

When: Sunday, September 14 from 2 to 5pm Where: Liberty Park outside North Las Vegas City Hall What: Headlined by Conjunto Brio Norteno, this event will include a Parade of Nations, and El Grito de Dolores Ceremony, as well as music, food, and more family-friendly activities.

Storywalk 'Adela's Mariachi Band'

When: September 15 - October 15 Where: Aliante Nature Discovery Park What: Celebrate mariachi traditions with this bilingual outdoor story experience.

Inaugural Latin Heritage Parade

When: Tuesday, September 16 at 6pm Where: Downtown Summerlin What: Organizers say its a "dynamic fusion of music and dance, featuring participants from countries including Mexico, Peru, Nicaragua, and Bolivia."

Viva La Vida

When: Saturday, September 27 from 5am to 9pm Where: Melvin Ennis Recreation Center What: A celebration of Hispanic and Latino cultures, featuring food, artisan vendors, music and entertainment.

Hispanic Heritage Month: Tile Painting

When: Tuesday, September 30 from 1 to 3pm Where: UNLV Student Union What: Attendees can paint their own Talavera-inspired tiles while learning the history behind the art.

Alma Fuego: Tribute to Selena

When: Saturday, October 4 at 7pm Where: Sammy Davis Junior Festival Plaza What: A tribute concert featuring covers of Selena's iconic music.

Noche de Musica: A Hispanic Heritage Celebration

When: Friday, October 10 from 7 to 8pm Where: West Charleston Library's Lecture Hall What: Enjoy a performance by the Nevada Chamber Orchestra

Loteria & Lowriders

When: Wednesday, October 15 from 6:30 to 9pm Where: UNLV SDP Lounge What: Family and friends are encouraged to attend live performances, admire lowriders, and play the Loteria for amazing prizes, including a Nintendo Switch.
