Therapy dog at Desert Oasis high school is helping relieve the back to school stress many students are facing. Dixie, the certified therapy dog is working to provide emotional support to high schoolers.
Dixie works alongside her handler Stephanie Zimmerman and is trained to read the body language of students while providing comfort to reduce many students anxiety and stress. Dixie’s calm presence provides a nonverbal source of comfort and ease; students like freshman Ray Eulalia note how “she's just calm,” while junior Emma Ramirez describes interacting with Dixie as a “relief… like a weight off my shoulders.”
With the new school year beginning that can and the stress that can come with that many students at Desert Oasis high school utilize the services Dixie provides and see her as a valuable asset to the school.
