The 21st annual Hoag Orange County Marathon Running Festival is this weekend, and for one runner, this race holds profound significance.
Christine Mayfield, 58, will be running her 58th marathon on Sunday, dedicating her run to the 58 victims who lost their lives in the 2017 mass shooting at Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas.
She was in attendance that night with her husband, son, daughter, and her son's now-fiancée.
Following the traumatic event, Christine stopped running marathons. But over the years, she's returned to the sport and is honoring the Route 91 victims for her 58th race.
Christine has written the names of the victims on her race bib for the past 33 marathons since the tragic event.
"Our intention all these years has been to memorialize the 58 angels," shared Christine. "We want their families and friends to know their dad, their sibling, their co-worker, their grandmother will never be forgotten. That's what will be in my heart Sunday."
The marathon will take place in Newport Beach on Sunday, May 7.
