'Pawsitive Beginnings' is a nonprofit organization that provides a safe and permanent home for displaced foxes that were rescued from the Fur Trade! This year they are celebrating year five and are asking for donations to create a comfortable habitat for their furry friends!
The proceeds collected during this time will go to improve and update the housing where the foxes are habilitated as well as their unique human-animal therapy program!
During these five years, Pawsitive Beginnings provided a permanent home to eight foxes from the fur trade! This organization goes beyond just rescuing foxes and also carries a transformative animal-assisted therapy program! Through this unique inter-species initiative, therapists share the stories of these foxes to individuals like trauma survivors in the Florida Keys!
Nicole Navarro, founder of ‘Pawsitive Beginnings’ explains, “We collaborate with organizations in regions where fur farming is prevalent and offer placement assistance for foxes in need… If we are unable to provide direct sanctuary, we actively network with reputable rescues to ensure each fox is placed in the hands of a qualified caregiver.” Navarro further explains when foxes lived in captivity and who have been breed for their fur cannot be released into the wild because they are several generations removed from their counterpart as well as lacking the basic survival skills necessary to protect themselves. Many foxes have also been breed for their color, making them more susceptible to predators!
This is where ‘Pawsitive Beginnings’ come into play! This organization is able to place foxes under these conditions in a safe and loving environment where they can be well cared for and have a permanent home.
Navarro aims to raise money for her organization to update the fox habitats with black, rubber coated wire since it lasts longer, is more comfortable to the animals, as well as rust preventable in the salty Florida air!
‘Pawsitive Beginnings’ is a notably awarded organization receiving recognition from Guidestar.org and Great Non-Profits!
