Women represent a small percentage of the skilled trades labor force in the United States and a local non-profit, Nevada Women in Trades is here to change that! Through different programs and events, Nevada Women in Trades aims to inspire our next generation of women to chase after careers in a technical profession!
This Las Vegas local non-profit recently held their first event "Girls Learn About Trades" at the Historic Westside School on Saturday, giving 12 young girls hands on experience with woodworking, pipefitting, virtual reality technology, and some look into podcasting.
The U.S Department of commerce highlights that women only hold around 4% trade jobs in the United States. Evelyn Pacheco, the president of Nevada Women in Trades says Nevada only reaches 2% of these trade jobs and that is why it is important for these events to show young women in Nevada careers they would not have been faced with or considered before.
Evelyn Pacheco hopes to hold more events like "Girls Learn About Trades" in the future! They hope these events expose young women in Nevada to technical experiences that can influence their possible future careers!
