Las Vegas has installed an additional 22 cameras that will be used to read license plate numbers in over 11 locations in the downtown Las Vegas area. The purpose of these cameras is to notify law enforcement if a stolen vehicle or wanted vehicle has been detected. These cameras will not be used to give traffic tickets but to help recover stolen motor vehicles and prevent the act. In 2024, vehicle theft dropped by 29% compared to the previous year. With the addition of these new cameras, the goal is to continue to reduce the theft rate.
