SSOTD: Bakery Reunites Son with Biological Mother

This touching story from Chicago tells of a reunion between a mother and her son, who had met many times before discovering their true connection. Hunter Varmarr was a regular customer at Give Me Some Sugah Bakery and recently became an employee. The baker behind the counter, Lenore Lindsey, was familiar with him, but neither knew they were related.

At 17, Lenore had given up her newborn son for adoption, and Varmarr didn’t learn he was adopted until he was 34. After finding out the truth, he decided to track down his birth mother and took a DNA test. This eventually led to a surprising phone call from the bakery, where he didn’t immediately realize its significance. Only when Lindsey recognized his name did the connection hit, and the call turned into an emotional moment filled with joy and disbelief. “When I knew who he was, we just started screaming on the phone,” said Lindsey. Varmarr added, “It was just so unbelievable.”

In the wake of this discovery, Varmarr, who had no baking experience, began working at the bakery while Lindsey recovered from health problems. This opportunity allowed him to bond with his biological mother and become part of her life. As he reflected on the experience, Varmarr said, “It’s been a great experience. It further strengthens my faith. You can’t make up for time and days gone by. What you can do is properly utilize the time that you have.” The reunion also introduced him to a long-lost sister and an extended family, bringing a new sense of closeness and love into his life.
