The Pierce Autism Center inside Touro University Nevada is offering support to bilingual families.
At Pierce, they offer social skills workshops and Applied Behavior Analysis therapy for children on the spectrum. Finding resources for a child with autism is difficult in itself, navigating a language barrier can make it even more challenging.
According to Pierce Autism Center, nearly half of the clients are Hispanic. To help bridge these cultural gaps, the center has bilingual therapists who work closely with parents to ensure their child has all the tools they need to grow.
Sandra Villalobos, whose seven-year-old son Alex attends the center, said that her son has made so much progress since he began therapy.
Villalobos also praised the center for helping her feel supported and understood.
