SSOTD: Liberty Dogs training facility begins construction in Reno

A new service dog training facility has just begun construction in Reno, NV.

Liberty Dogs will provide trained service dogs for disabled veterans across the country.

The program will train roughly 200 dogs per year on their 27-acre campus, which will include a training facility, dog housing, as well as accommodations for veterans staying at the campus to train with their Liberty Dog.

While training, the dogs will learn a variety of skills. "What we'll specialize in is cross-training these dogs," said Liberty Dogs Foundation CEO, Kyle Cory-Yaeggi. "So these dogs will be able to perform the psychiatric as well as the physical mobility tasks to be more dynamic for our veterans."

Construction is expected to be completed by 2026. In the meantime, four dogs are officially in training to become Liberty Dogs.

More information on the program and volunteer opportunities are available here.
