National Child Passenger Safety Week is recognized each year in September.
The week brings awareness to parents and caregivers on how to keep children safe in vehicles.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children in the US. Car seats for children, when installed correctly, greatly reduces the risk of fatal injuries.
The Healthy Living Institute at UMC offers car seat inspections and installations with certified child passenger safety technicians free of charge for the community.
UMC also offers free car seats and booster seats to eligible families.
