James Madison High School students got together to surprise their school’s custodian with his dream car, a Jeep Wrangler. The group of students raised over $20,000 in just three months to purchase the new car. The custodian, Francis Apraku, was surprised on September 9th in the parking lot of the Vienna Inn. One of the students, Bennett, told Good Morning America that Apraku is more than a custodian. The students explained that he does so much for them so they wanted to do something for him. As soon as they found out that his dream car was a Jeep Wrangler, Bennett and his friends got right to work by making a fundraiser to raise enough money to get his car. The donations quickly poured in; over the first two days, they raised $5,000.00. They were over the moon when they raised over $20,000. Apraku fell to the ground in shock when he saw the car. He told GMA he will never forget the kindness from not just the students but the local community as well. Apraku emphasized how he and the rest of the custodial staff cherish and value the connection that they make with the students. He also mentioned that he couldn’t believe that he received such an amazing gift and how much that meant to him. The students explained how great of a feeling it was to do something like this for Apraku. The principal of the high school emphasized that the students demonstrate exceptional kindness and generosity and are making a significant positive impact on their school and their community. Bennett and his friends hope that their act of kindness inspires others to show appreciation to those around them.
