On Monday, 11 new Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) volunteers took their oath at Clark County Family Court, committing to represent 19 children in Clark County foster care. This volunteer group varied from, a Las Vegas Strip performer, a gymnastics coach, a law student, and several retirees, who have completed extensive training to prepare for their roles as a CASA volunteer. With over 3,000 children currently in foster care in Clark County, the CASA program which is part of the Family Division of the Eighth Judicial District Court, aims to ensure that these children receive necessary services through dedicated support. Volunteers typically spend 2-3 hours a week or more getting to know the children and advocating for their needs in various settings. This program requires a two-year commitment from their volunteers. Judge Margaret Pickard says "Our goal is to get every CASA child the services they need." If you are interested head to http://casalasvegas.org/.
