SSOTD: CALV Helping Laid off Mirage Employees Find New Jobs

Culinary Academy Las Vegas, is helping the Mirage workers find new jobs. They are doing this by offering free classes for eligible bartenders and culinary union workers in order to obtain the skills they need to apply for other jobs. Anita Escareno, a Mirage banquet server for 20 years, explained how sad she was when the resort announced its closure; she mostly worked the conventions at the Mirage. Escareno just recently finished a bar apprenticeship program at CALV, where she learned how to make drinks. CALV is a hospitality institute established in 1993 and located in North Las Vegas. It offers a variety of different programs within the hospital. Since the announcement of the Mirage closing, there have already been around 50 laid-off workers who have registered at the academy. Even workers from the Tropicana have come to the academy as well. Overall, CALV makes it a priority to help workers find new jobs.
