Starbucks is getting a sustainable makeover!

According to the coffee giant, 75% of their U.S. sales come from Frappucinos, Refreshers and other cold beverages. So in an effort to reduce plastic waste, Starbucks is introducing cups that contain up to 20% less plastic.

The company announced Thursday the new cups will launch in stores in the U.S. and Canada this month.

Vice president of product innovation, Amelia Landers said this has been four years in the making, with engineers testing thousands of cup variations.

The new cups are part of a sustainablity push at Starbucks. In 2019, the company introduced strawless lids and just last year, they began accepting customer-provided cups for drive-thru and mobile orders.

By 2030, Starbucks wants all packaging to be resusable, recyclable or compostable.
