SSOTD: Senior Dog Has a Forever Home After Being Adopted by Hotel Guest

The Park on Main, located in Highlands, is a dog-friendly hotel. Since 2015, the hotel has fostered dogs from the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society. This allows the dogs to have the chance to live in luxury while also being exposed to the hotel guests for possible adoption. One senior dog recently found his forever home. Calhoun, an 8-year-old hound dog mix, was rescued by the shelter in July and was the latest dog to be rescued by Sydney Hakel, who was visiting the hotel from Nashville, Tennessee. She took Calhoun to her room and took him on a walk. Haykel then concluded her trip and went home without the dog, but she couldn’t get Calhoun out of her head. Calhoun reminded Haykel and her boyfriend of their previous dog, which they lost not too long ago. Fortunately, the couple decided they needed to adopt him. Haykel made the arrangements to bring Calhoun to her. Haykel was ecstatic to see Calhoun again. The couple fell in love with him and were so glad to give him a home. They took Calhoun to Starbucks to get a pup cup to celebrate. The hotel’s general manager, Devon Allio, said they are sad to see Calhoun go, but they are beyond happy he has a home. The staff at the animal shelter said that with the hotel fostering dogs, it has led to 25 to 30 adoptions over the years.
