SSOTD: Big Green and Green Our Planet Boost School Garden Initiatives

Clark County School District and Big Green celebrated their joint $300,000 investment in 16 Las Vegas schools in order to boost school garden initiatives. They had their big kick-off event on Saturday, February 10. During the event, Clark County educators and Green Our Planet at Gwendolyn Woolley Elementary School built a garden together to provide educators with more hands-on experience to lead their garden kick-off activities at their own schools. Big Green’s Jumpstart program empowers 16 Las Vegas schools with school garden kits. Within the kit are raised garden beds, seeds, soil, and an efficient irrigation system. It is coupled with a $42,000 grant in order to kickstart and rejuvenate their garden programs. With the very generous contributions from the Cyrus and Michael Tang Foundation and the Engelstad Foundation, the grants, gardens, and Green Our Planet programming were created. To support this work further in Las Vegas, go to greenourplanet.org/donate and biggreen.org/donate.
