SSOTD: Former NFL Player Warrick Dunn Is Changing Lives With His Charity

Former NFL player Warrick Dunn surprised Dominique, a single mother, and her daughter with a new home. The new home in Baton Rouge was built, furnished, and completely stocked with food due to the collaborative effort of Habitat for Humanity, Warrick Dunn Charities, and the Catholic high school that Dunn graduated from. Dunn’s old Catholic high school raised $85,000 for the house. Not only was this the first or second home Dunn has given away, but it was just one of 217 other new homes that Dunn has funded. Dunn had launched his charity, Homes for the Holidays, in order to honor his mother, who had passed away and had her own dream of owning her own home one day. Dunn is not just an all-around great athlete but also a great person. In addition to being presented the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, he also challenged NFL players, except the Saints, after Hurricane Katrina to donate $5,000 to the effort. In the end, the effort received over $5 million. Dunn has three charitable organizations; his message and purpose for these organizations is to "empower families to break the cycle of generational poverty and achieve a better quality of life for all." Dunn changed Dominique and her daughter's lives; they were beyond grateful for the generosity of the charities of Warrick Dunn, Habitat for Humanity, and the Catholic High School.
