Local Story: Las Vegas High School Honors Teacher Who Lost Her Life on 9/11

On Friday, Palo Verde High School held a ceremony to honor the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Among the victims was Barbara Edwards, a foreign languages teacher at Palo Verde.

Barbara was a passenger on American Airlines Flight 77, which was hijacked and crashed in the Pentagon on September 11, 2001. She was the only Las Vegas resident killed in the attacks.

The Palo Verde JROTC led the ceremony on Friday, along with the school’s choir and over 50 attendees.

Her friend and former teacher, Gail Fahy remembers Barbara fondly. "She was the most fun person I've ever met," Gail said. "She would come in my classroom after school if I had a bad day and she would just sit on the desk and start telling jokes."

Master Sergeant Sonja Chapman emphasizes the importance of remembering those who died on the 9/11 attacks.
