Walker Furniture and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue have teamed up to replace 152 old mattresses for stations across the valley.
15 fire stations will receive brand new mattresses, as part of Walker's "Project Firehouse: Rested & Ready" program. "We appreciate how our first responders are always on call and can only sleep in short intervals," said Linda Alterwitz-Mizrahi, co-owner of Walker Furniture. "The mattresses are our way of saying 'thank you'."
Firefighters have to intermittent sleep, as they must be ready to respond to a call at all hours. "Imagine every day and night at any given minute when you're sleeping, you need to abruptly wake up, run your fastest and perform your best," explains officials from Walker. Unfortunately, firefighters often go years without receiving new mattresses.
On Wednesday, Walker delivered 13 mattresses to Station 44 and back in September, 13 mattresses were delivered to Station 8.
