Shay Mikalonis, a local officer injured in a 2020 shooting, paid a visit to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department last Tuesday.
The LVMPD shared to social media, "Today we had a VERY special person visit us. Officer Shay Mikalonis! He attended one of our briefings and got an opportunity to hang out with his fellow brothers and sisters."
Officer Shay Mikalonis was shot during a protest on the Strip in June 2020, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down and needing a ventilator to breathe. The near fatal gunshot came from 21-year old Edgar Samaniego, who's now serving a 20 to 50 year prison sentence.
Shay's stepfather, Patrick Neville says the support from the local community has kept Shay's spirits high. "The cards, the letters, just the positive feedback" Patrick says, "The positive things we've gotten from people in Las Vegas has been outstanding."
