"A Las Vegas valley high school student team won a national contest to take part in a NASA-sponsored experiment.
The team from Durango High School competed in the NASA TechRise Student Challenge, a STEM competition for 6th-to-12th graders.
This year's challenge was to design an experiment that could be tested on a NASA-sponsored balloon flight.
A spokesperson says there were 60 winning teams from across the country.
The Durango team called their entry "PROJECT NIGHTHAWK" and will work on building their experiments for the remainder of the school year with the support of professional engineers.
They will receive $1,500 to build out their experiences. A high-altitude balloon test flight will take place this summer." (KSNV)
