Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $133.5 million to Communities In Schools, the largest and most effective dropout prevention organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed.
The Nevada affiliate of CIS is receiving $5 million of the total donated. CIS Nevada operates in 81 high-need Nevada schools. There are more than 75,000 students at high risk for dropout.
Tami Hance-Lehr, CEO and state director for CIS Nevada, said in a press release, "We are beyond grateful to be named a recipient of this generous gift from MacKenzie Scott. Through our evidence-based approach to ensuring kids stay in school, led by the work of our caring and trusted site coordinators on school campuses, we are mobilizing our state’s resources to surround students with a community of support."
