America's beloved Betty White passed away on New Year's Eve, but her legacy lives on. The #BettyWhiteChallenge started on social media, which calls upon fans of the last Golden Girl to donate to local animals rescues and shelters.
Not only was she known for her legendary roles on the screen, she was also known to be an animal lover and advocate. In an interview with Smithsonian Magazine, White said, "They [parents] imbued in me the fact that, to me, there isn't an animal on the planet that I don't find fascinating and want to learn more about."
The challenge's intent is to continue White's fight for animals by encouraging people to donate $5 to a local animal shelter or rescue on her birthday, January 17. It would have been her 100th birthday.
