Clark County to offer free swim classes for summer

"Clark County is now hoping to address those concerns by offering free swim classes to local kids and parents at a number of their pool and recreational centers throughout the Las Vegas Valley.

For local mom, Rebecca Arce, getting her six-year-old daughter, Loves, swim lessons has been a priority for her family. She understands though that may not always be the case for every parent.

For the 2021 summer season, Clark County is offering free swimming for youth and their parents who qualify for financial assistance. Those interested can pick up an application at their nearest Clark County Pool or Recreation Center. Qualified families are required to show proof of participation in the following financial assistance programs:

  • EMBARQ – LIFELINE/LINK UP
  • NV Energy Assistance Program (EAP)
  • CCAP (Child Care Assistance Program)
  • Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Social Security Disability (SSD)
  • Medicaid
  • Women Infant Children (WIC)
  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly Food Stamps
  • Financial Assistance Service (FAS) Check Stub
  • Welfare Set Aside Program (WSAP)
  • Help of Southern Nevada
  • HACA/Hopelink
  • Foster Care (Court Guardianship Documentation)
  • Veteran’s Retirement

The county is now pressing the water safety motto: Patrol, Protect and Prepare. Patrol encourages locals to designate someone to watch the pool at all times when in the water. Protect the space by having barriers up around the pool along with proper floatation devices when in the water. Prepare covers the push to have a rescue or response plan for how to respond if things do go wrong; immediately calling 911.

Clark County’s Department of Parks and Recreation operates thirteen pools and twenty-five community centers." (KSNV)
