"Three soldiers with the Nevada National Guard are credited with being in the right place at the right time to help a woman involved in a car crash in Virginia this week.

The National Guard says Capts. Tana Gurule and Tyler Wistisen and 1st Lt. Michael Flury were stopped at an intersection in Fairfax County on Monday when they saw a woman slam into a cement wall.

Gurule, who is also a Las Vegas Metropolitan police officer with EMT training, got out of her car and pulled the windshield off the woman's car, the Guard said.

She found a pulse rate and opened the woman's airway, while Wistisen and Flury provided aid.

Emergency responders used the jaws of life to extricate the woman from her car, according to the Guard. Hospital officials told Gurule the driver had two broken ankles and a broken femur, and that she was no longer listed in critical condition.

Gurule is one of the 250 Nevada National Guard soldiers and airmen deployed to the Washington D.C. area to support the presidential inauguration of Joe Biden." (News3 Matthew Seeman)
