Q: If you were talking to yourself on the first day you started your career, what would be the piece of advice you would give yourself on that first day?
A: TRUST YOUR PROCESS. I know it can sound trite, but it's the truth. For many of us who are ambitious and have high-achieving mindsets, most people think we obsess about our end goal. The truth is most of us obsess with how we get to our end goal and if you remain hyper-focused on one particular avenue whether it's a particular job or city - you end up missing the beauty in creating your own path to get to where you want to be. I would absolutely say to myself, "Jess, TRUST YOUR PROCESS because it's going to be different from other people around you and at times it won't make sense, but in trusting yourself and remaining connected to your purpose, you will always be on your right path."
Q: What is a quote or saying you live by, and why?
A: I often say, "No matter where my path leads, you'll always find me at the intersection of passion, creativity, and impact." It's a motto I created for myself to always remain connected to who I am and the things that matter. I'm a passionate person and put my heart into everything I do. I'm a creative, so before television- whether it was hosting a podcast, producing short films, writing short stories, creating marketing campaigns or content- I believe in letting my creativity soar because there is always something new and beautiful on the horizon. Impact is where it matters most though, because all the passion and creativity in the world wouldn't mean anything to me if I'm not making an impact. This motto and quote I've created is at the root of everything, not just my career because in our relationships and communities, I believe we should also find one another at the intersection of passion, creativity, and impact.
Q: How do you “shine” in your career/field in a unique market like Las Vegas?
A: As a lifestyle and entertainment television host, we get to talk about a lot of exciting experiences and attractions here in Las Vegas. As wonderful and exciting as our Las Vegas shows are on the strip, I wanted to create something that would showcase our culture-our true heartbeat here in this city. As a woman who grew up singing and performing in theatre, I know how important it is to be part of local theatre and performance opportunities. By connecting my passion to purpose, I created a series for Morning Blend called, Backstage in Vegas. This monthly series takes viewers into our local theatre spaces and productions to tackle the larger conversation of "why" it matters to support and engage with our local performing arts community.
