Discussing Wound Care with Dr. Carl Williams from The Valley Health System

Dr. Carl Williams was born in Gary Indiana and has been practicing medicine in Las Vegas for over thirty years. He received his Medical Doctorate at the Indiana University School of Medicine and completed residencies and fellowships at Wayne State in Detroit, the University of Illinois, Chicago and Rush Presbyterian. Dr. Williams was the first African American Plastic Surgery Resident in Chicago and the first African American Plastic Surgeon in the state of Nevada. He brought the first laser center to Las Vegas and introduced a multitude of lasers and their functionality to this area.

Dr. Carl Williams is triple board certified in plastic surgery, surgery of the hand and otolaryngology. He has served on the board of directors of many different hospitals as both a leader of surgery and advanced wound healing. He was a member of the plastic surgery faculty for two years in Chicago at the University of Illinois and continues to pass on his knowledge today by continuing as a clinical educator for both the UNLV School of Medicine and Touro University.

Dr. Williams holds active memberships in many professional organizations including the AMA, ASPS, ASSH, and ASA. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has volunteered for many medical missions to Mexico, Guatemala, Samoa, Costa Rica, and the Philippines. He also participated in a medical exchange with China and Russia. Dr. Williams participated in a community outreach program that removed gang tattoos to give Las Vegas youth a chance to get out of that lifestyle. He has also contributed, as a reconstructive plastic surgeon, much needed assistance to victims of domestic violence. Dr. Williams also established the hand surgery department at UMC hospital and continues to take hand trauma calls for The USH Health Systems at Valley Medical Hospital, Spring Valley Hospital Medical Center, Desert Springs ER, and Henderson Hospital. Additionally, he is dedicated to assisting North Vista with hand trauma care for North Vista.

As a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Williams has pioneered several wound care programs throughout the valley. He is currently the director of The Valley Hospital Wound Center and he has elevated it to a center of excellence. Dr. Williams is also the director of wound care for several LTACS, in patient rehabs and SNFS.
