Radio Day at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park

  • In the mid-1940s, radio and film star Chester “Chet” Lauck of the famous radio show “Lum & Abner” purchased the historic Sandstone Ranch (now Spring Mountain Ranch State Park). His family’s arrival at the ranch signaled a change from “Wild-West” to “West Coast”, as Hollywood personalities began visiting and the Las Vegas Valley became an entertainment mecca for the world. Join rangers for Radio Day, and explore the technology that brought Mr. Lauck to fame, and the world he brought with him to the quiet canyon that would become Spring Mountain Ranch State Park.

Astronomy In the Park: Red Rock Canyon with the Las Vegas Astronomical Society

We'll have a presentation in their auditorium at 5:30pm ("Beginning Astronomer's Telescope Clinic" with former LVAS President Geary Keilman) and telescope viewing of the night sky from 6pm to 9pm.
