You never know when or where you’re going to run into someone down the line so a good rule of thumb is to never treat someone who is pursuing you romantically like a piece of garbage. There are of course exceptions to this rule, for the most part, you’ll want to reject people with sensitivity and grace.
- Keep it casual. If you can tell from the jump that you’re not interested in someone, let them know that asap. Respect their time and don’t lead them on and don’t leave any doubt with your tone or body language.
- Give them your social media. If someone is asking for your phone number and you don’t want to give it to them, your social media handle could be a decent consolation prize for them. The best part is you could block them with just a few clicks.
- Tell them you already have a partner. While honesty is the best policy, a little white lie here and there could save your night out from getting ruined by someone you’re not into. If they push back on you saying that you’re spoken for, you need to get away from them asap. They’re bad news.
- Just be honest. There’s nothing wrong with telling someone no. Just give them a firm, but polite, “no” and let everyone move on with their lives.
