Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling do not let their daughters, Esmeralda, 10, and Amada, 8, use smartphones or social media.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Mendes revealed that allowing her kids to search for something on the internet seems just as scary as allowing them to "go down the street in the middle of the night."

"Putting my kid on the internet and being like, 'Oh, search something,' that to me is equivalent to telling her, 'Oh, just go down the street in the middle of the night. You’ll be fine.' I know that sounds extreme, but that’s what I feel."

The Hitch star met Gosling while filming The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011and the lovebirds never looked back, conceiving Esmeralda in 2014 and Amada two years later. In further efforts to preserve their childhood, Mendes often tells her daughters stories of her less privileged upbringing.

"I explain to them what I didn’t have, what Ryan didn’t have when he was little, how hard we had to fight, the dark days of being paycheck to paycheck, and this and that, but they’ll never really know unless they experience that." While the celebrity duo try their best to raise their children in a way they see fit, including keeping their faces off the internet, Mendes fears she might be subconsciously passing down a negative trait.

"I still have all this anxiety and I see myself passing it on to my children. Subconsciously I can’t imagine what they’re inheriting from me that I don’t want them to inherit from me."
