The City of North Las Vegas has just launched their new restoration project at Kiehl Ranch Historic Park which will transform an old orchard from back in the 1850's!

The orchard used to provide support to miners working on nearby railroads and will be transformed through a $150,000 investment from the city. The project will include planting 36 fruit trees and several vegetable planters. The produce that comes from these plants will go right back to the community supporting local seniors and those less fortunate.

In addition to providing fresh produce, the city plans to offer farming and gardening classes to educate residents on how to create and obtain their own food. This initiative aims to address food insecurity, as 13% of people across the valley are affected according to Three Square Food Bank.

This restoration project aims to increase vegetation in urban areas to combat the urban regions phenomenon that experience higher temperatures than rural areas.
