With the spring season in full swing, bee colonies are appearing in unwanted areas in the Las Vegas valley.

Vegas Bees, owned and operated by husband and wife duo Betsy Lewis and Pete Rizzo, offer humane removal of bees and other stinging insects.

Lewis and Rizzo both work as teachers during the week. On the weekends, they remove and relocate bee hives in a humane way.

Instead of exterminating the bees, the team calms the bees down with smoke and places the bees in a hive box. Once they remove the bees safely, they transport the colonies to a nature preserve or a beekeeper's hive where they are able to pollinate away from residential areas.

Rizzo said, "I just wanted people to know that the bees can be saved. They don't have to be exterminated. And dollar for dollar, it's pretty close to the same cost."
