In celebration of Earth Day, nonprofit Green Our Planet will host the country's largest student-run farmers market in Downtown Summerlin.
The Giant Student Farmers Market will welcome 'Farmpreneurs' from over 50 schools in Las Vegas, where students will have the opportunity to showcase their produce and crafts.
"This event is a powerful demonstration of what students can achieve when given the right tools and opportunities," said Ciara Byrne, CEO of Green Our Planet.
In its 12th year, Green Our Planet has been committed to empowering students with hands-on education through their bi-annual student-run farmers market. The organization also has an online platform with lessons in STEM, nutrition, and conservation.
"Beyond learning how to grow food, students become 'Frampreneurs', gaining essential financial literacy, business and customer service skills," said Byrne. "They create business plans, track profits and losses and experience firsthand what it takes to run a successful business, all while promoting sustainability and environmental leadership."
The student-run farmers market will be on Tuesday, April 22 from 9:30am-12:30pm at The Lawn in Downtown Summerlin. All proceeds from the market will be reinvested in the school's garden programs.
