Local Facebook group, 'Nuestro Viaje con el Autismo,' offers support to Spanish-speaking families after an autism diagnosis.
Maria Ibarra, the creator of the group, said she started the page in 2020 to help families navigate autism and to fight isolation within the community. Ibarra also wanted to create an open-minded space where no one feels judged.
'Nuestro Viaje con el Autismo' connects 42 families and hosts events a variet ranging from "Coffee, Bread, and Friends" meet ups to birthday celebrations for their children. Each event is held in Spanish to help communities that are often overlooked.
Ibarra said, "Our families can be at ease because there will be no judgement. No one will say ‘this kid is behaving badly’. All there is, is love and family.
