The American Humane Society reunited a military dog named Frenky with his former army handler, Staff Sergeant Kristin, after being separated for in 2021!
Sergeant Kristin explained that their separation felt like "leaving a child behind," but now that the two are reunited, she can't wait for endless couch cuddles, rucks, and lots of runs!
The pair served together for almost 4 and a half years, including a 10-month combat tour in Afghanistan, as well as a 10-month combat tour in Iraq. Frenky is a 10-year-old German Shepherd that is specially trained in explosive detection and bite work!
In Frenky's time with Kristin, they completed 20 Secret Service missions that protected people like our President, Vice President, First Lady, and many more!
Dr. Robin Ganzert, president and CEO of American Humane Society wants to highlight that, "We are grateful for the opportunity to reunite military working dog Frenky with his best friend." He further explains that American Humane Society feels honored to give this dog a comfortable retirement and home after his courageous 6-years distinguished service to this country!
During Frenky's time of serving, he was an unofficial mascot on the base with a sweet, goofy, personality would help boost the mood and comfort of those there. Frenky and Kristin were separated in 2021 when the latter was reassigned to Fort Drum in northern New York she felt heartbroken to leave Frenky behind.
Ever since Kristin found out Frenky might retire, she has been inquiring about seeing him again and possibly bringing him home!
American Humane Society helped reunite Kristin and Frenky after picking up Frenky from Fort Johnson in Louisianna and escorted him to San Antonio, Texas. Kristin is excited to be reunited with Frenky and give him the chance to relax and be a dog!
