'Earl Grey' The Donkey captivated thousands of people after pushing his yoga ball around his enclosure. After his favorite yoga ball deflated, Earl Grey received dozens of yoga balls, donated by all his fans!
Homes for Hooves is an animal rescue shelter in British Columbia, Canada that took in a rescue donkey in 2024 that lived alone for most of his adult life, which for a herd animal can be extremely detrimental.
Michelle Singleton, owner of Homes for Hooves, explains, "His original name was Eeyore... which kind of tells you he was a sad, lonely donkey."
Scheduling play dates with other animals didn't go well, but his encounter with a yoga ball changed everything! After this, Eeyore and his yoga ball became best friends, and he became much happier meaning a name change was necessary!
Every day, Earl Grey would push, bite, and kick his yoga ball across his whole paddock. Until one day, the yoga ball popped, and the shelter knew they needed a call to action! They asked their supporters if they had any donations of exercise balls to gift to Earl Grey.
Donations were collected across the province until Earl Grey was left with plenty of yoga balls to play with! Almost 40 yoga balls were donated as well as three other rescue donkeys to create a herd Earl Grey always dreamed of!
