The University Medical Center of Southern Nevada Lions Burn Care Center recently hosted the annual Lil' Roar Pediatric Burn Survivor Holiday Celebration.
The event was held at North Las Vegas Fire Station 52, along with the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation.
The annual celebration provides pediatric burn survivors and their families an opportunity to enjoy holiday activities with the nurses who cared for them at UMC. Local firefighters, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will also be in attendance.
"It's really important to be able to provide some normalcy, they've been through a lot in the hospital with their burn injuries," said Yasmin Conaway, Burn Program Manager at UMC Lions Burn Care Center. "So giving them some time where they can be around other kids who have been through something similar, and just be kids again. Open a present, sit on Santa's lap, and have fun."
The event provided arts and crafts, games, sweet treats and pictures with Santa.
"Kids are so resilient, even though they've been through something really hard," said Yasmin. "To be able to give them just a little bit of joy with different characters, it's just so much fun to see the smiles on their faces."
The celebration was organized by UMC, along with the North Las Vegas Fire Department, Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation, and the Lions Clubs of Clark County.
