A Missouri 5th grader, Daken Kramer, was concerned about his classmates who owed money for school meals. So, he decided to take action.
The 11-year-old posted a video last month asking his friends, family, even businesses to help pay off the meal debt at his school, Thomas Ultican Elementary School in Missouri. His video went viral and his message resonated with many people. Daken originally wanted to raise $3,500 but he exceeded his goal and raised $7,370.
Daken was able to pay off all the elementary school's debt and provided nearly $4,000 at Blue Springs High School to reduce meal debt.
To show appreciation, Thomas Ultican Elementary School created the Daken Kramer Legacy Award to honor students who go above and beyond in service and kindness.
He said, "I just wanted to do something kind to say thank you to the school."
