Seven new Las Vegas valley teachers are being recognized for their hard work and commitment.

English teacher, Jamie Sullivan was surprised on Tuesday when she received the New Educator of the Year Award.

"It makes me feel wonderful, it makes me feel appreciated," said Jamie.

Jamie worked as a support staff member for Clark County School District, but realized her true passion was teaching. She enrolled in UNLV's Pathway to Professionals program, and soon became an English teacher at Robert O. Gibson Leadership Academy.

"I put a lot of heart into it," explains Jamie. "I'm here an hour to two hours early every day. I stay late and I'm here on Saturdays. I make connections and relationships with every last one of my students."

Though she doesn't know who nominated her, Jamie's students were ecstatic. "She works hard for her students and does everything she can," said student Miranda. "She gives us awesome opportunities and great lessons in life. She's my number one."

All seven honorees will be invited to an award ceremony next week.
