"The American Red Cross is using the month of February to recruit new volunteers for the "Resolve to Volunteer" campaign. It's designed for people who may want to reignite their New Year's resolution and give back to their community.
Blood donations are as important as ever. Deliveries are a 24/7 operation where people volunteer in four-hour shifts. Keeping those shifts filled means saving a life.
The Red Cross collects and distributes about 40% of the blood supply in the United States. According to the organization's stats -- the Red Cross must collect 13,000 blood donations to cover the need in 2,500 hospitals and transfusion centers, including 14 locations in Southern Nevada.
Blood drives and blood deliveries are just a few of many moving parts here. Prior to COVID, News 3 & CW staff volunteers helped install smoke alarms in homes to prevent disaster.
The Southern Nevada American Red Cross chapter also sends countless volunteers to disaster sites across the country.
The American Red Cross Southern Nevada chapter needs volunteers in three key areas: Blood Donor Ambassadors, Blood Transportation Specialists and Disaster Action Team Members.
