The excitement of the World Cup is helping increase youth soccer participation across the country, including the Las Vegas area.
Local facilities have reported packed fields and growing interest from families. Among those facilities is the Las Vegas Sports Park in Summerlin, which has been open for 25 years.
Youth league manager Jack Kelly says the indoor facility has been packed everyday.
"I just moved here 7 months ago from Arkansas," shares Jack. "Soccer wasn't super big over there, but moving here I've noticed it's a very big soccer community.
One local parent said she started playing at the same park when she was 12 and now brings her own children to play on those same fields, saying the Las Vegas community has grown significantly over the years.
"We were kind of like on the lower end of everything," she said. "It's like playing other states, but now we're able to keep up with everyone. It's definitely growing a lot."
Although it's a growing community, for families whose children want to advance in the sport, costs can add up quickly. Competitive club soccer teams can cost around $1,500 for uniforms and travel alone.
But managers say many local organizations offer plans to help families cover those costs.
"We're always willing to help them out because no matter what, we want these kids to have fun, and that's all it is about," said Matthew Lotito, youth league manager at the park.
Coaches at the park say the growing interest in youth soccer proves the World Cup isn't just creating fans, but it's inspiring the next generation of players.
