The Raiders are returning to their Resource Room at Robert L. Taylor Elementary during Nevada Reading Week to present Roaring Reader Awards to students for their literacy achievements, host readings and conduct a Q&A with two classes with the highest participation numbers in the school’s Apple Core Reading Program.
Nevada Reading Week encourages a love of reading by giving children opportunities to read and be read to, activities and competitions to engage both avid and reluctant readers and theme-related experiences involving both the school and the community.
Last September, the Raiders adopted the Communities In Schools (CIS) of Southern Nevada Resource Room at Robert L. Taylor Elementary School, providing sports/playground equipment, backpacks, school supplies, emergency food and hygiene kits, clothing, shoes, alarm clocks and other items. Robert L. Taylor Elementary is a high-need, Title 1 school with 100% of the student population on free and reduced lunch.
The Raiderettes and Raider Rusher will continue Nevada Reading Week activities, reading to students at John Dooley Elementary in Henderson and John Tarten Elementary in North Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Communities In Schools is the beneficiary for the Second Annual Raiders Foundation Celebrity Swing on May 8, 2019 at TopGolf.
