After 146 Years 'The Greatest Show On Earth' Comes To An End

I'd like to think that all the clowns packed themselves into one tiny car and drove off into the sunset.

After 146 years of entertainment, Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has folded up the big-top tents for the last time. They gave their final performance of 'The Greatest Show On Earth' last night (5/21/17) to a sold out crowd at Nassau Coliseum outside of New York City. The show had struggled with ticket sales in the past few years competing against increased competition and technology. The circus also was a point of focus for animal rights groups over the years, which led to the end of elephants being part of the show last year.

Ringmaster Johnathan Lee Iverson closed the show by saying, "Let's go home and show everyone we are forever more the Greatest Show on Earth!"
