"Misinformation" Is Dictionary.com's Word Of The Year

Oxford Dictionary used "toxic" as their Word Of The Year early in November setting a tone for other publications 'Words' that were sure to follow. So it wasn't surprising when Dictionary.com released "misinformation" as their 'Word',  a linguist at Dictionary.com stated that “Misinformation has been around for a long time, but over the last decade or so the rise of social media has really, really changed how information is shared. We believe that understanding the concept of misinformation is vital to identifying misinformation as we encounter it in the wild, and that could ultimately help curb its impact.” With things like fake news, flat earth theories, and anti-vaxxers, Dictionary.com wants people to be more vigilant in dissecting the information they absorb.
