The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species seized 50 crocodiles at Heathrow Airport in London last week off a flight originating from Malaysia. The juvenile crocs were cramped into small crates in sets of 10 which caused stressful conditions resulting in at least one crocodile perishing. Regulations state that only 4 crocodiles are to be grouped into the crates allowing for a less stressful environment. The 49 surviving crocodiles will now be re-homed with the help of CITES.
