Did Kim Kardashian Ruin Marilyn Monroe's Iconic Dress?

Fans of Marilyn Monroe were reportedly not pleased when they found out Kim Kardashian would be wearing one of Marilyn's most iconic dresses to the Met Gala. This is the dress Marilyn wore when she famously sang "Happy Birthday Mr. President" to President John F. Kennedy, so yes, it's a big deal. A piece of history.

Kim talked about the fact that she had to lose 16 pounds in a matter of weeks to be able to fit into the gown. She also only wore it on the red carpet, and changed into a replica before going into the event because she couldn't "move freely" in the original. My guess is that she couldn't sit down in it.

A video shows a wardrobe assistant helping Kim squeeze into the dress.

According to PopCrave, "The dress now shows signs of tearing, and several crystals are either missing or hanging off of it."

She borrowed the dress from Ripley's Believe It or Not's Hollywood location where it's been stored for many years. A representative for Ripley's said the decision to allow her to borrow it was not made lightly and that precautions were taken to make sure it didn't get damaged.

“This was no easy decision for Ripley’s, however, Kim Kardashian has continued to show the utmost respect for this opportunity and historic garment,” Ripley’s said in a post-gala statement. “From extensive research to following guidelines such as no body makeup, only wearing the dress for the short red-carpet appearance, and making absolutely no alterations, she has become a steward — and added to — its history.”

Page Six reached out to Ripley's after seeing the alleged before and after pictures of the gown, but so far they have not responded to request for comment.

So... Do you think Kim ruined the dress?
