My Colorado River Kayaking Adventure

I love to travel so it was time for an adventure, this time kayaking the Colorado River from Willow Beach in Arizona!  It was a 3 hour tour (as the Gilligans Island song goes) to the Emerald Cave, which is beautiful.  It was a group of us so we were all in this together!

I'd never been kayaking before and you don't need experience.  I had no idea you steer a kayak with your feet!  That's how you control the direction of the rudder, making you turn left or right.  It was fun! However, the wind picked up while we were at our destination, meaning paddling back to shore UPWIND!  This was one of the hardest challenges I've ever had to face, with no choice to turn back or stop.  You had to keep going otherwise you would lose your momentum in the face of wind.

Now, I go to the gym every other day but you can never be prepared to paddle upwind 2 miles.  I may have cussed a time or two to help but it was ultimately thinking of my 5 time cancer survivor mom that gave me the strength to get back to shore.  Surprisingly, I wasn't sore the next day!  The only downside besides facing the wind was the back part of my kayak's seat popped under the kayak, leaving the kayak itself digging into my back.  It was a bit uncomfortable BUT note to self to next time make sure the seat is fastened in place properly.

We found it on Groupon and depending on the size of your party will determine the cost per person.  But it cost us $120 per person, in a small group of 3.  It was an experience and an adventure!  When the waiver says you assume being fit enough to participate they're not kidding!  Here's the link, have fun!
