Youth hockey program gets surprise from Golden Knights' Deryk Engelland

Vegas Golden Knights v New Jersey Devils

"Kids taking part in a youth hockey program in the Las Vegas valley got quite a surprise on Tuesday.

Retired Golden Knights player Deryk Engelland dropped by the Balm of Gilead Church to deliver some gifts and play a little street hockey.

About 20 children take part of the United Hockey program, which is incorporated in Las Vegas Metropolitan Police's ASCEND program in the South Central Area Command.

ASCEND stands for "Advancing Safe Communities by Encouraging Neighborhood Development." The department says the program helps bring community partners together to fight blight, help at-risk kids and turn around high-crime areas.

Engelland was part of the Golden Knights' inaugural roster for the 2017-18 season.

He played three seasons with Vegas before retiring last year, joining the team's charitable foundation as a special assistant to owner Bill Foley." (KSNV)
