A Las Vegas teacher is using her TikTok platform to help students in need.

Known as @ms.guy on TikTok, Cheri Guy is in her first year of teaching English at Desert Pines High School.

Every year, the school runs a gift-giving program called "Wishmas." Students write down the gift they want the most, and the school, as well as members of the community come together to purchase those gifts.

Unfortunately, the school says they usually have to select a certain amount of students to buy gifts for, as there are so many in need. "There's no way, even if all the teachers picked one student, could cover everything," Cheri said. According to the school, out of 3,000 students at the school, 900 signed up for Wishmas.

Cheri took to TikTok to ask for help gifting her students their desired presents. And Cheri's 163,000 followers did not disappoint. "We have probably filled over 300 'wishmases' and the teachers have probably filled another 100," Cheri said.

There is still work to be done, as there are over 500 students in need of holiday gifts. A full list of items students want can be found here.

"These are students that have struggles, but what I love about them is they'll give you the shirt off their back even when they don't have the shirt to give off their back," said Issac Stein, Principal of Desert Pines High School.

Students are also feeling the impact of these gifts. "It really helps as my mom being a single mother as well and trying to work," said Senior, Araceli Sanchez. "It can be really hard sometimes."

Cheri says after everything has been purchased, she will host a gift wrapping event to prepare the gifts for the students.
